GIMMICS Apotheek Game
The Pharmacy Game is a pharmacy simulation made and developed by University of Groningen and is named Gimmics, . The Pharmacy game, or ‘the game’ as the students call it, takes place in the end phase of the pharmacy study. The game is designed to bridge the gap between study and practice and helps student prepare for their internships. The game takes about five weeks. In the first week students get training to make a business plan and take management training. The second week is reserved for the students to familiarize themselves with the systems of the game and get a few trial runs. The third week the game starts for real. Students are divided in teams of six and are mixed according to courses they followed . Teams get separated in classrooms and can decorate them accordingly. The next three weeks students have to do projects, check recipes, mail, call and talk to patients and doctors, played by professionals, student assistants or people outside the department like family and friends. Students write down what they want to learn from the game before it begins and rotate roles regularly. Jokers can be used twice to ask for feedback. Each action in the game is judged and can lead to the pharmacy losing or winning patients. Scores are kept on the website and manually updated by the coordinator of the game.
